She appeared in February to July 1966 as the Doctor, alongside William Hartnell. Janet Fielding, who will play the Fourth Doctor, and Tom Baker, who will play the Fourth Doctor, and Nicholas Courtney, who will play companion Tegan Jovanka and managed Nicholas Courtney, went on to become a theatrical agent.

Jackie Lane Advocacy is the agent in charge of her agency. The BBC launched An Adventure in Space and Time in 2013, tracing the origins and early days of Doctor Who's existence as part of the programme's fiftieth anniversary celebrations.

Lane appears in the drama, played by actress Sophie Holt. Jackie Lane made a rare television appearance in 2013, during the Doctor Who: The Afterparty's 50th anniversary of Doctor Who.

Early life

Jacqueline Joyce Lane was born in Manchester in 1941 to Jack and Ena Lane. Her father, a theatrical wig designer and make-up artist, brought her into theatre at an early age, but all she wanted to do was act, and she wanted to perform. She auditioned for the lead role in Tony Richardson's film adaptation of A Taste of Honey after graduating from local drama groups. Despite the fact that she did not get the part, the audition did lead to two years of work at Manchester's Library Theatre. She served as a temp, had learned shorthand and typing at her parents' request in between jobs, and tended to type at her parents' insistence.

Jackie Lane Career

Career

Lane appeared on BBC television and radio shows, including Anna Neagle's radio production of Wonderful Things in 1958, with Charlie Drake in the television version Grandad was a wrestler in 1959, and as a panelist on Juke Box Jury in 1961. In 1961, she appeared on TV show Z-Cars, and in 1963, she was cast in the BBC soap opera Compact.

She appeared in Doctor Who in 1966, playing Dodo Chaplet alongside the Doctor's first incarnation, played by William Hartnell. On Wimbledon Common, her character mistakenly mistook it for a real police box. The show's runaway was short-lived, as the new producer did not renew her year's deal. Nonetheless, she found herself on the show three decades later and was still being questioned about it.

Lane became sick of being typecast as Dodo-like characters and fell out of love with acting after leaving Doctor Who. She owned an antiques business for six years before establishing Ad Voice, the voiceover company for Tom Baker, the Fourth Doctor, who played the Fourth Doctor. Janet Fielding, who will play companion Tegan Jovanka, was also represented by her, as well as Nicholas Courtney, a new series regular. She graduated in 2000 but spent time reading with children at a local primary school in Maida Vale.

Lane appeared in Myth Makers #24, a Reeltime Pictures Direct-to-video film in which she was interviewed about her work in 1992. This was the first time she wanted to be interviewed on video about her time on the show, but she was not going to be included in any future DVD extras or documentary films. According to Doctor Who historian Richard Bignell, this was due to her not wanting to revisit old career interests that she had already discussed in depth. As part of the programme's fiftieth anniversary celebrations, the BBC produced An Adventure in Space and Time in 2013. Lane appears in the drama, played by Sophie Holt. Lane made a rare TV appearance in 2013, passing on Doctor Who: The Afterparty's 50th anniversary celebrations.

She died on June 2321, at the age of 79. There was no reason given for the death.
