SAMANTHA BRICK says it's a brave confession that will enrage many. I've never been fired because I know what guys really want... And I'll always make sure I give it to them

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 14, 2024
What's the secret to never being ditched? For the first time, I don't believe it's just down to my appearance, my height, my general loveliness, and my unshakeable optimism. No, I'm sure the reason why men see in me is that, quite simply, I'm a good husband and wife material. On more than one occasion, I've been referred to as the 'whole package.' The truth is, I know what guys really want in a marriage and how knowing it will keep the woman in control. For starters, I don't shy away from examining the sexes' differences. Men love to channel their inner caveman, whether that means carrying the suitcase for international jaunts or setting a fire in a holiday cottage. And why would I rain on their parade like so many of my contemporaries do in the name of equality?

According to agony aunt DEAR JANE, the change from a trophy wife to a tequila-swigging party animal revealed that I had no idea who I really was. I had figured out how to be contented

Someone recently posted a snapshot of me on Instagram from 20 years ago. I was dressed in an expensive designer jacket, with immaculately blonde-streaked hair, and dripping with pearls in my mid-30s with seven bestsellers under my belt. I analyzed the photos closely, wondering how it was so bittersweet to see myself so young and gynical, but still so full of self-doubt. In fact, I barely recognized myself, and not because of time; my whole demeanor is different. Despite the coiffed appearance and confident smile, I was looking at a woman who was dressed to impress because she looked so insecure. I concealed my overwhelming lack of self-worth behind a jacket of gleaming armour back in the day. I thought I had to imitate glamorous, fast-looking writers like Jackie Collins and Barbara Taylor-Bradford. Mainly because I had no idea who the true'me' was really was. This photo makes me realize that my abiding lack of confidence has resulted in me inhabiting many different avatars in two decades.

I want to tell women the hardest lesson I've learned is that money is power

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 21, 2022
SHIRLEY CONRAN: My mother told me that having money was rude for a woman. We were middle-class with no financial worries - my father had a dry-cleaning business, but she didn't have to give my two sisters or me pocket money. Husbands didn't want wives who were too concerned about financial matters. I realized this was just another way of keeping women short of money – and therefore power – as I grew up; it sparked a rash of anger in me that persists today; in the week of my 90th birthday, the topic of women and wealth has me fuming; My campaigning spirit is as good as when I led a flaming, torchlit march of 700 women to No. 10 in 1969, demanding equal pay. The Equal Pay Act of 1970 was the result. I spent 30 years learning about money; two years in post-divorce penury; 20 years on a single overarching cause - improving women's lives. I want women to get richer and stay richer. Some may find this objectionable; we are also allergic to the idea of women earning a lot of money.

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 27, 2022
TOM LEONARD: Elinor Glyn, a novelist, invented the 'It Girl,' and is often credited with inventing the Hollywood sex scene. Despite the fact that her later life resembled one of her books' more improvable plots, Glyn - author Hilary Hallett of Inventing The It Girl - began as a respected member of the Home Counties landed gentry who was largely insecure about her passionless Edwardian marriage, expressing a great deal of sexual apprehension.
