Ivan Toney Career

Club career

Toney, a boy from Northampton, started his career at his hometown club, Northampton Town. In the FA Cup first round away to Bradford City on November 13, 2012, he made his first-team debut on November 13 in a 3–3 draw; after that, his team eventually lost 4–2 in a penalty shoot-out. He was the youngest first-team player in the team's history at 16 years old. In a 5–0 victory over York City the following day, he scored four goals in the FA Youth Cup. In a 3–1 League Two win over Wycombe Wanderers on November 17, his only other appearance in a matchday squad this season was on November 17th.

Toney got off to a goalless home draw against Morecambe on September 28, 2013, prompting Ben Tozer after 74 minutes. He made his first professional appearance on April 26, 2014, scoring two goals in the first half of a 3–0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge, the former on a bicycle kick. Northampton defeated Oxford United 3–1 at home on May 3rd to prevent relegation to the Conference Premiership on the final day of the season. He scored a header on May 3rd.

Toney defeated Wolverham Wanderers in the first round of the League Cup on August 12, 2014, with a header. His first goals of the season arrived on September 20th; he was a replacement for Lawson D'Ath in a home match against Accrington Stanley, but his team lost 5–4. His header was the only goal in victory over Morecambe a week later. In a 3–2 home loss to Bury on December 26, Toney was banned for attacking visiting defender Hayden White.

Toney was close to moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in November 2014, but the team was forced to cancel due to an undisclosed medical problem.

Toney signed for Newcastle United in June 2015 on a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee after 13 goals in 60 appearances for Northampton in all competitions. He made his debut in the second round of the League Cup on August 25, defeating Massadio Harada for the final 12 minutes of a 4–1 home win over his former team. In a 2–2 home draw against Chelsea on September 26, he played his first league match for Newcastle as an 85th-minute replacement for Aleksandar Mitrovi.

Toney joined Barnsley, a League One club, on a 28-day youth loan on September 9, 2015. In the Football League Trophy's Northern quarter finals, he made his debut the next day, beating York 2–1 in a home win. Barnsley scored his first goal in the Trophy's next round, a header in a 2–2 draw, on December 5th, and converted his attempt after winning in the following penalty shoot-out. He scored his first league goal for the club a week later, leading to a 3–2 victory over Colchester United with a header from Marley Watkins' cross.

Toney returned to Barnsley on loan for the remainder of the season on March 24th. Sam Winnall, the top scorer in the 2016 Football League Trophy Final against Oxford United, was unveiled at Wembley Stadium on Thursday. Ashley Fletcher's rebounded for his 2–1 lead to Barnsley, who then beat 3–2. Barnsley defeated Millwall 3–1 at the same ground on May 29th, and Toney took over the last nine minutes.

Toney signed with Shrewsbury Town in League One on August 8, 2016, on a half-season loan. In a 3–2 victory over Oldham Athletic on September 3rd, he scored his first goal for the club after being fouled by Charles Dunne, converting a penalty. He was sent home in a 1–1 draw against AFC Wimbledon on September 24th for a late challenge on opposition goalkeeper James Shea.

Toney, who had scored 7 goals in 26 appearances in all leagues for Shrewsbury, was loaned to Scunthorpe United, a sister club in League One, from whom the 2016–17 season will begin. He made his Iron debut on his return to Northampton two days later, replacing Kevin van Veen. Scunthorpe defeated Port Vale 3–2 on January 28 for his first start and scoring in a 3–2 home win over the first time.

Toney returned to League One on August 2nd, 2017 after joining Wigan Athletic for the forthcoming season. He made his debut three days later, beginning with a 1–0 win over Milton Keynes Dons as they started the season. His first goal for his new team was scored on August 19th, a 2–0 victory over Oldham Athletic on August 19th. However, his contract was cut short when he returned to Newcastle on January 10th, 2018.

On January 11, 2018, Toney re-signed on loan for Scunthorpe United. In a 3–2 home win over Fleetwood Town, he scored his first goal in a Scunthorpe shirt on February 3, 2018, netting the winner.

Toney joined Peterborough United on a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee that has been revealed by various sources as £650,000. He made his debut two days later in a 4–1 victory over Rochdale as a 72nd-minute substitute for two-goal Jason Cummings. The Posh defeated 3–2 at Southend United on September 8th, with the same player scoring his first goal for the Posh.

He scored a hat-trick on December 11 in a 4–4 draw in the FA Cup's second round replay, beginning with a free kick from near the halfway line but his team failed in the subsequent penalty shootout, but he won nonetheless. In a 4–0 win over Accrington Stanley eight days later, he scored another treble. Toney was suspended in the first half of a 2–1 home loss to former team Shrewsbury for handling the ball on the goal line on February 23, 2019.

Toney scored seven goals in the first seven league games, culminating with a hat-trick over Rochdale on September 14th. He asked a chant sung by Peterborough supporters about the size of his genitalia to be enlarged to make it more family-friendly the following month.

In his last seven games before the season was ended in March 2020 due to the COVID- pandemic pandemic. At the EFL Awards, he was named Player of the Season.

Toney completed a medical and signed with Brentford in a five-year contract on August 31, 2020. The fee was estimated to be between £5 million and £10 million with add-ons, Peterborough's highest transfer fee. Tottenham Hotspur's prominent player to want him was one of the other clubs interested in him, but only as a back-up to Harry Kane. Brentford's first goal, a penalty, was scored in a 1–1 draw with Millwall on September 26th; he scored twice in each of his next three games.

Toney scored the only goal of a home victory over Luton Town on January 20, 2021, before being suspended in extra time for an altercation with Tom Lockyer. He had a hat-trick to a 7-2 victory over Wycombe Wanderers, who were also at the Brentford Community Stadium. In April, he was nominated for the EFL Championship Player of the Season.

Toney scored his 31st league goal of the season against Bristol City on May 8th, tying a new Championship record for the most goals scored in a single season. He scored in a 2–0 victory over Swansea City in the 2021 EFL Championship play-off Final three weeks later.

The club took a stand against bigotry at Brentford; Toney said that players were being "used as puppets" to make the gesture, although society did not change. Throughout the season, he has also been subjected to racial abuse online. Following Brentford's decision to stand down for the 2020-21 Premier League season alongside the other 19 clubs, Toney said he would not join his colleagues and will continue to play.

Toney got off and played full games in Brentford's first Premier League match, where they defeated Arsenal 2–0. Brentford won by a trick in a crucial 3–1 away victory over Norwich City on March 5, 2022. Toney scored his second Premier League hat-trick in a 5–2 home win over Leeds United; his first goal was his 50th for the club, while the second and third were his first from outside the box since joining Brentford.

International career

Toney will be called up to the Jamaican national team in March 2021 as part of the Jamaican Football Federation's efforts to specifically target a group of English-born players for call ups in order to raise the country's hopes of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. Toney, according to Jamaican Football Federation president Michael Ricketts, was in the process of obtaining a Jamaican passport in order to travel for the country. Despite this, Toney reportedly denied Jamaica's call as he had aspire to represent his country of origin.

Toney received his first call up to the England national team for UEFA Nations League fixtures against Italy and Germany on September 15, 2022.

Brentford 5-3 Wolves: Thomas Frank's side strike early again as Bees keep rivals winless thanks to SIX goals in the first half

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 5, 2024
AADAM PATEL AT THE GTECH COMMUNITY STADIUM: Having opened the scoring in the first minute of each of their last three Premier League matches, Thomas Frank 's side took a little longer to get going as they took the lead after just 76 seconds here. No side has ever scored four first-minute goals in a Premier League season but at this rate, Brentford will shatter that record. After ultimately dropping eight points in those three games however, they backed up their electric start with four goals in a scintillating first-half display to heap the pressure on Wolves and Gary O'Neil.

Mail Sport's FPL predictions: Which explosive bandwagon has fantasy managers purring ahead of Gameweek 7? Who is the 'best value pick in the game'? And can Erik ten Hag finally end his winless run at Aston Villa?

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 4, 2024
Liverpool have a shot at taking a four-point advantage over their Premier League title rivals this weekend as they get us going in the 12:30pm Saturday kick-off against Crystal Palace. Gameweek 7 also offers peril if you're connected with Manchester United , particularly if your name is Erik ten Hag . The Red Devils face a trip to Aston Villa and a negative result could spell time on the Dutchman's Old Trafford reign. Erling Haaland didn't score last weekend against Newcastle, believe it or not, but still costs you the prettiest penny out of all with a price of £15.3million.
