STEPHEN GLOVER: It may feel like we're living in a new Age of Anxiety, but we should remember our country is still prosperous and free

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 25, 2023
STEPHEN GLOVER: In a long poem of the same name released shortly after the end of World War II, W. H. Auden coined the phrase "the age of fear." Auden's poem explores human loneliness in an age that had seen two wars and forsaken much of the culture's and religious belief that lasted for many generations. If the mid-20th century was a period of fear, nearly a quarter of the way through the 21st century, we are transported in another angst-ridden period. It's not just that loneliness has grown over the past four decades, but that our traditions have been more eroded, and the faith, or at least Christianity, has declined.
