Henry Kendall, (28 May 1897 – September 1962) was an English stage and film actor, stage designer, and an immaculately chic revue artiste.

Early life

Kendall was born in 1897 in London, the son of William Kendall and his partner Rebecca Nathan. He was educated at the City of London School. In Tommy Atkins, a non-speaking extra, he began his stage career "walking on" (as a non-speaking extra). He served in Business for the First World War from 1914-1914, became a supporting actor in Watch Your Step (Empire Theatre, 1915), and Sebastian in Twelfth Night (1915–1916).

Kendall served as a captain in the Royal Flying Corps (later the Royal Air Force), winning the Air Force Cross from 1916 to 1919.

Kendall continued to appear mainly in the West End in the 1930s and the Second World War, but toured in three productions: he appeared in 1930s and 1940s.

Film career

Kendall denied his own films, many of which were quota quickies, with the mention that he "started film career 1931 and has appeared in innumerable pictures." In 1933, he appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's "bravest fail," Rich and Strange, before being born in the United States as East of Shanghai (1931).
