In Germany, the frog was buried underneath a crop-covered field for 75 years. At the site of the ruins, a memorial monument has been constructed to honor six RAF soldiers, including Scottish pilot Andrew Brown, who were shot down and killed during the Second World War. They were part of the Stirling EE872, one of 605 bombers sent to bomb Ludwigshafen and Mannheim in September 1943. When the plane was struck by a German night fighter, it had dropped its payload and turned for home. Only one of the seven crew survived.
