In the first round, the New York Giants, who were trying to substitute wide-out Plaxico Burress, selected Nicks, ranking 29th overall. Nicks was the fifth wide receiver in the draft and one of six was selected in the first round alone, and he was the fifth wide receiver overall.
Nicks was contracted for five years, $12.54 million, on August 1, 2009. The agreement includes a $6.5 million signing bonus.
