Guillaume Soro Career

Political career

Soro was appointed Minister of Communications following a peace deal in January 2003. In September 2003, the New Forces ministers began a boycott of cabinet meetings, which was revived in January 2004. Following the violent breakup of an opposition protest in Abidjan in March 2004, President Gbagbo suspended Soro and two other ministers from office. The dismissals were officially condemned by Soro, who said they were effectively a protest by Gbagbo against the peace deal. Soro was restored on August 9, 2004.

Soro was appointed Minister of Reconstruction and Reintegration by Prime Minister Charles Konan Banny on December 28, 2005. On March 15, 2006, he attended his first cabinet meeting in this capacity.
