Gregg Karukas Life

Gregory "Gregg" Karukas (born May 18, 1956) is a smooth jazz pianist from Bowie, Maryland.

He played with drums, guitar, trumpet, and keyboards as a youth, but it wasn't until his teens that he began playing piano professionally as a pianist, having performed with the Bowie High School Starliners big band.

He owned one of the first Minimoog synthesizers when he was sixteen. In Tim Eyermann's band East Coast Offering, Karukas spent five years together.

He worked with David Benoit, Richard Elliot, Grant Geissman, Dave Koz, Ronnie Laws, and Melissa Manchester after moving to Los Angeles.

When the Rippingtons first album, Moonlighting (1987), he was a member of the Rippingtons.

Multiple Best Keyboardist awards have been received by Craig Chaquico, Boney James, and Peter White.

He has collaborated with Brazilian composer Dori Caymmi and Riveira Silveira.

He produced, arranged, engineered, and co-wrote two albums with Omar Akram, whose Echoes of Love received the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album in 2013. He owns and distributes the bulk of his music on his label, Nightowl Records.
