Gregg Bissonette (born June 9, 1959) is an American drummer.
He has performed on tour, session recording, and full-time drummer in numerous jazz and rock bands.
He is best known for his instructional videos and drum clinics, as a member of the David Lee Roth band and drummer.
He is the brother of bass player Matt Bissonette, who briefly played in Roth's band for a short time.
Career
In 1983, one of Bissonette's first recordings was on jazz trumpet legend Maynard Ferguson's Live From San Francisco. Brother Matt was also in the band and on the record. In 1985, he appeared on Brandon Fields' The Other Side of the Story. David Garfield appeared on keyboards. Bissonette will perform with Fields, Garfield, and Steve Lukather on guitar and Bass with John Pea on bass as Los Lobotomys a few years later. These performances were held at the Baked Potato, a jazz club and restaurant in Los Angeles, California, and featured rock, Latin, and jazz.
Former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth gave Bissonnette his big break. Guitarist Steve Valiant and future Mr. Big bassist Billy Sheehan were among the band's members. Gregg appeared on all three American Billboard 200 hit albums between 1985-1992 (no.4) and A Little Ain't Enough (no.18) and the subsequent world tours.
Bissonette released Private Lesson and Playing, Reading & Soloing with a Band, respectively, in 1990 and 1993. Private Lesson explores a variety of topics, including double bass drumming, rudiments (using Mitch Markovich's backsticking method), playing with a metronome and brushes.
He appeared on every episode of the TV show Friends from 1994 to 2004.
When Simon Phillips developed back pains in late 1995, Toto was embarking on Tambu. During the tour's first leg, Phillips begged Bissonette to cover for him.
