Grant Elliott Life

Grant David Elliott (born 21 March 1979) is a retired New Zealand cricketer who has competed in all formats of the game.

Elliott, primarily a batting all-rounder, made a man of the match appearance to help New Zealand win the first ever World Cup final by defeating South Africa in 2015.

He played for the Wellington Firebirds domestically.

In March 2017, he declared his retirement from international cricket, but in August 2018, he resigned from all forms of cricket.

Early life

Grant Elliott, the son of a South African plastic surgeon, attended St St St St Githians College, whose notable cricket alumni include Michael Lumb, Roy Pienaar, David Terbrugge, Dave Rundle, and Kagiso Rabada.

Elliott debuted in Gauteng between 1996 and 1997, where on the recommendation of his captain, former New Zealand test skipper Ken Rutherford, who saw the quota system potentially blocking his route to higher awards, Elliott left Johannesburg for New Zealand in 2001. Before qualifying to play for New Zealand in 2007, he played one match for South Africa'A' against India 'A'.

International career

In the third test in Napier, Called up to the national team in early 2008 during England's tour, he made his Test debut against England against England.

Elliott has now made his ODI debut for New Zealand against England, taking 3 wickets. He scored his first ODI 50 in his second game. In the 3rd game of the Chappell-Hadlee series scoring 115 against Australia at the SCG on Sunday, his maiden ODI century was his highest score in the SCG.

In the semifinals, he also did well in the Champions Trophy in South Africa in 2009, when he took a four wicket haul against England, assisting New Zealand in qualifying for the semifinals and the Black caps to victory over Pakistan.

When Sri Lanka visited New Zealand ahead of the 2015 Cricket World Cup, Elliott scored his second century in his second ODI century. When Elliott and Luke Ronchi lifted New Zealand from 93/5 to a commanding 360 off their 50 overs, they tied multiple batting records. They have a 267-square-inch standout in ODIs, the highest 6th wicket partnership in ODI cricket.

He and Zulfiqar Babar formed the highest 10th wicket team in any form of T20 (63).

He had his finest moment in the 2015 World Cup Semi-final against South Africa, where he defeated 84 people and was named Man of the Match. On the second to last ball of the innings from Dale Steyn, he made history by presenting New Zealand with their first-ever Cricket World Cup Final. Elliot top-scored for New Zealand in the final against Australia, scoring 83 runs.

Elliott was named in the Twenty20 team in 2016 after suffering an arm injury while playing domestically for Wellington.

Elliott announced his retirement from ODI cricket in April 2016.

He was selected in a World XI team in August 2017 to face Pakistan in three Twenty20 International matches in Lahore.
