The 82-year-old has a prior engagement leading to his absence from Old Trafford on Saturday.
Paul Pogba opens up on his doping ban 'hell' after being hit with four-year suspension... as he reveals all about his relationship with Jose Mourinho and when he wanted to leave Man United
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 16, 2024
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW BY SAMI MOKBEL: It is the afternoon of October 4, 2024. Paul Pogba stands at home gazing out of the window overcome with shock. Happy shock. He's dressed in a suit, a circumstance that Pogba later tells me has had his family in stitches of laughter. Indeed, Pogba is finally allowing himself a smile. Surely not even Graeme Souness would begrudge him that. Over 12 months of heartache; a period Pogba morbidly describes as 'darkness' has reached its climax. It's an ending that has brought vindication to Pogba's fight for justice; the doping ordeal, that originally saw him banned for four years for testing positive for banned substance DHEA, is over - the Court of Arbitration for Sport slashing his original suspension to 18 months on appeal after the body ruled he did not intentionally seek an advantage.
Graeme Souness insists he would NOT sign Paul Pogba for free after his doping ban as he labels the midfielder a 'wasted talent' - and pinpoints the key moment that derailed his career
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 12, 2024
Paul Pogba could soon resume his football career after seeing his four-year ban for a doping offence reduced to 18 months following a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The former Manchester United midfielder - who won the World Cup with France in 2018 - has been out of action since September last year when he last played for Juventus. Under the terms of his reduced ban, Pogba is now free to return to training in January 2025, before being permitted to play again from March.
Leeds and Sunderland players will wear special 'Every Minute Matters' shirts ahead of their Championship clash tonight - as Sky Bet and British Heart Foundation's campaign reaches a major milestone

Sunderland and Leeds players will wear specially designed 'Every Minute Matters' t-shirts during the warm-up ahead of their Championship clash to help raise awareness of the importance of learning CPR. It comes as the campaign celebrates hitting the milestone of teaching 100,000 people CPR since the initiative began in May this year. Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation's 'Every Minute Matters' campaign seeks to educate people on potentially life-saving CPR training. They have set a target of 270,000 people to start learning CPR by the end of the 2024-25 season.
Mikel Arteta barely celebrated Arsenal's last-gasp heroics against Leicester City. Has the Gunners boss finally learned to walk on the mild side, asks IAN HERBERT
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 29, 2024
IAN HERBERT AT THE EMIRATES STADIUM: There was a time when a vital goal like Arsenal's, in the death throes of a game, would have sent Mikel Arteta barrelling gleefully down the touchline. It was not to everyone's liking. Graeme Souness, for one, respectfully suggested on these pages a few seasons back that he might want to tone things down. That was then. Arteta was the soul of sobriety when Leandro Trossard's 94th-minute deflected shot killed off Leicester, with no theatrics impeding a final mustering of Arsenal's coaching team while the Emirates basked in euphoria.

Graeme Souness has revealed he had to undergo emergency heart surgery after having an 'episode' while watching England's recent UEFA Nations League win over Finland. Even a sugar daddy couldn't help Rangers bridge the gap to Celtic now... how new UEFA Fair Play rules will affect spending on players
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 12, 2024
To close the gap on Celtic, Graeme Souness suspects his former club Rangers need to spend a figure in the region of £50million. Three or four quality signings, he believes, would make all the difference. There's a problem with that, of course. Speaking on the William Hill podcast Three Up Front, the former Ibrox boss acknowledged the brass tacks of the situation when he said: 'Rangers don't have the money right now. If they were to spend £50m, it'd be nip and tuck between the two of them.'
Man United are the Ferrari of football but winning the cups isn't enough, no matter what Erik ten Hag says, writes SIMON JORDAN
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 4, 2024
SIMON JORDAN: To this day, Manchester United, fresh off their 3-0 loss to Liverpool, are an incredibly valuable property inside the auspices of the Premier League and are the Ferrari (inset) of the Premier League. They have the effect of gold dust. Graeme Souness calls them FC Hollywood. The club created out of workers' unions has become the club with all the fizz. It's something the Premier League won't want to lose. They like to see their major brands doing well but neither can United be complacent because the league is now an international product and package that's the sum of all its parts, no longer exclusively reliant on Old Trafford.
Graeme Souness insists Kobbie Mainoo 'should NOT be starting every game'... and accuses Man United of treating youngsters like superstars 'before they become good players'
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 2, 2024
Graeme Souness has claimed that Kobbie Mainoo is not good enough to be a regular starter for Manchester United. Mainoo has become a prominent player for both United and England since his first team breakthrough last November. The 19-year-old scored in the FA Cup final win over Manchester City in May and also started in England's Euro 2024 final defeat by Spain.

Graeme Souness believes Declan Rice is 'overhyped' and is not worth the £100m Arsenal paid for him... as Liverpool icon explains why the England star isn't 'world class'
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 29, 2024
Liverpool legend Graeme Souness believes Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice to be 'overhyped' and not worth the £100million the Gunners shelled out for him. Souness revealed that the significant transfer fee the Gunners paid to secure the Englishman's move from West Ham is partly responsible for Rice being overhyped. Rice's transfer to Arsenal was announced in July 2023 for a deal worth £105million, including £5million in add-ons.
Old Firm Countdown: Celtic may hold the upper hand of late but the gap isn't that big, insists Rangers legend Graeme Souness
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 29, 2024
Graeme Souness has claimed there is no significant gap in quality between Rangers and Celtic ahead of this weekend's Old Firm showdown. Rangers will go into Sunday's clash at Parkhead as underdogs against a Celtic side who have won three successive league titles. Brendan Rodgers' team have started the new season in good form and also now have cash reserves of well over £80million in the bank after selling Matt O'Riley for a record fee of £25m earlier this week.
Old Firm Countdown: 'The bigger the game, the better I was. The bigger the challenge, bring it on. The Rangers players now need to have that mentality,' says Graeme Souness
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 29, 2024
For Ibrox legend Graeme Souness, the siege mentality and feeling of being written off is something which should fuel the Rangers players in their efforts to cause a shock. Asked how he would feel if he were a Rangers player in that sort of environment, he said: 'I would relish it, bring it on. See if we can squeeze 80,000 in. F***, yeah. Don't ask me, ask some of my team-mates. The bigger the game, the better I was. The bigger the challenge, bring it on.
Old Firm Countdown: 'I was obsessed with Rangers,' says Martin O'Neill. 'I would drive around, listening to their games, hoping they'd drop points... until my wife told me to get a grip!'
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 29, 2024
Almost 20 years after last being immersed in Glasgow's unique sporting conflict, Martin O'Neill has a confession to make.
'I have to say, for my five years there, I was obsessed with Rangers,' he confides.
'For instance, if we were playing on a Sunday, you knew that Rangers dropping points away from home on the Saturday was vital.

And, during a fundraising campaign for DEBRA, a charity seeking a cure for epidermolysis bullosa - a rare medical condition that leads to the skin blistering easily - Souness swam the English Channel in June 2023 as part of a six-person relay team, raising £1million in the process.

www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 28, 2024
Football legend turned Hollywood actor Vinnie Jones has signed for Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation by joining their 'Every Minute Matters' campaign ahead of transfer deadline day. With less than 48 hours until the summer window slams shut, Sky Bet - in partnership with the cardiovascular research charity - pulled off a stunning coup by luring former Wimbledon, Leeds United and Chelsea hard man Jones as part of their star-studded 'Re-Starting 11' squad including Graeme Souness and Luton captain Tom Lockyer. As part of the 'Every Minute Matters' campaign, which seeks to educate people on potentially life-saving CPR training, Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation have set a target of 270,000 people to start learning CPR by the end of the 2024-25 campaign, which got underway just less than a fortnight ago.
'It was a dream situation... it's not now': Graeme Souness sounds a warning to Arne Slot and names the HIGHEST position Liverpool will finish - but hails the new boss for Jarrell Quansah handling
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 22, 2024
Graeme Souness does not believe Liverpool will improve on their third-placed finish from last season under Arne Slot this term. Slot has replaced legendary boss Jurgen Klopp at the helm and made a winning start last weekend when the Reds beat newly-promoted Ipswich Town 2-0 at Portman Road. When Klopp announced he would be leaving in January, it looked like his successor would have strong foundations to build on as Liverpool were still in with a chance of pulling off an unprecedented Quadruple.

Why Chelsea's crazy £1.2BILLION slap-dash transfer approach will work, writes SIMON JORDAN
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 21, 2024
SIMON JORDAN: What is Chelsea 's financial plan given they've splashed out £1.2billion on players since 2022 and do not appear to be stopping anytime soon? You can't call it admirable to spend money like drunken sailors but I've tried to step back from the laughable 'purists' point of view and consider how owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali see things strategically. To them, this is likely a marathon, not a sprint. They bought the business for £2.5billion thinking no doubt it could be worth 10-£15billion in a decade's time the way sport is going, alongside other benefits of owning a prized asset like a London-based Premier League club.

Graeme Souness has revealed on Daily Mail's 'Everything I Know About Me' podcast that he once threw a pint of beer over one of his former Liverpool team-mates after the pair came to a disagreement in a Dublin nightclub. During a glittering career, Souness would enjoy the best part of his success with the Reds, winning three European Cups and five English League titles. The 71-year-old would join the club in 1978 and go on to eventually captain the side returning 55 goals and 40 assists across 358 competitive games.
