It's a low-budget production that has already generated good sales at the US box office, and it deserves so; it's smart, frightening, and ultimately a triumphant solo debut for writer-director Zach Cregger. He is best known as a comedic actor, and Barbarian has many moments of humour, but it is mainly a horror-thriller that, as so many films in our post-MeToo period, refers to man's inhumanity to women. It's an all-American story with a Brit in the lead, in this case, the brilliant Georgina Campbell, as in Jordan Peele's brilliant Get Out (2017).

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long reunited and reflected on their friendship.
