Thirty-two years ago today, July 26, 1990, our nation moved closer to the fulfillment of its foundational promise when we passed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This landmark law affirms and protects the fundamental rights of people with disabilities — the right to equal opportunity, economic self-sufficiency, independent living, and equitable participation in every aspect of American life. But we can do more. Awareness is important when educating the community and advocating for persons with disabilities. Representation matters. Accessibility matters. Brava to Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin for speaking about the importance of disability representation. “You can’t just pay lip service to visibility. More than anything you have to make it happen.” Matlin told the LA Times. #ADA32 #ThanksToTheADA Posted by @geenadavisorg on Jul 26, 2022 05:28PM

It’s Disability Pride Month and we’d love to spotlight Chelsie Hill and the “Rollettes”! Chelsie is a professional dancer, community leader, content creator, advocate for people with disabilities, and Founder/CEO of the wheelchair dance team the la_rollettes. She created the team back in 2012 because she wanted to meet other women like her and create a space to dance together. Today, the Rollettes provide an opportunity for women to be a part of a community that stretches across 20 different countries through their Girls’ Nights, dance classes, mentorship program, and women's empowerment weekend -- the Rollettes Experience. “Disability Pride Month means so much to me because I feel like it gives us the opportunity to actually have the mic and say and show how we live our lives,” Chelsie told ABC in a recent interview. Follow the Rollettes on Instagram and TikTok rollettes_la and watch the ABC interview here.
