When four vehicles became stranded in a 3.5 ft high tide as Britain was struck by floodwaters, a van driver was rescued from his rooftop by firefighters today. During the incident on Mersea Island in Essex, six others, including three children, were also trapped, but firefighters were able to rescue the victims before fire crews arrived. Hundreds of cars were stuck on the road either side of The Strood due to the high tide, which is well known for floods. Today's Colchester Gazette: 'There were two fire engines in front of me; one was in the sea, and there was also a man on top of a van.' Because of the bend, the queue was so long back that you didn't even know how many cars there were - in my rear view mirror, you could see 20 cars and no further.' A man was rescued at 1.25 p.m. by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, with watch manager Gary Clarke advising people to check tide times in the area later. Flooding in England has affected more than 300 areas, with the Environment Agency has released 96 warnings of 'expected' flooding and 202 warnings of 'possible' flooding.

A very sunny Sunday! In the midst of 26C heat, Britons hit the beaches

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 4, 2023
On what is for many the last day of the summer half-term, holidaymakers have flocked to the seaside, as well as walking to lakes, local parks, and fields to soak up the sun's rays. It comes as the weather looks expected to remain stable and even hotter next week, with highs of up to 27 degrees forecast by next week. The south of England and parts of Scotland and southern Wales are expected to see the mercury rise into the mid-20s this afternoon, but the northern and eastern coasts are expected to see more cloud and cooler temperatures. It came as firefighters and coastguards urged Britons to be safe when celebrating the return of summer to minimize fire risks and getting into trouble in Britain's waters.
