Gary Ballance, 33, a former cricketer who appeared in 16 Tests and 23 ODIs for England, has retired from cricket. However, he last appeared in 2017 as he battled a lack of form, struggles with mental stability, and shaming reports of racism in Yorkshire. As he marked his Test debut for Zimbabwe with a fine unbeaten century against West Indies, former England batter Gary Ballance became just the second cricketer to score Test tons for two separate nations. He follows Kepler Wessels, who appeared for and scored a 100 for both Australia and South Africa, winning a century for two nations. Ballance was born in Zimbabwe before going to England as a schoolboy where he attended Harrow School. He played for Derbyshire for a brief period of time and gained international recognition for England.

Michael Vaughan will be the ONLY charged individual present at the ECB's disciplinary hearing

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 7, 2023
Michael Vaughan, the former England captain, is the only person charged in connection with the racism charges made by his ex-Yorkshire teammate Azeem Rafiq. Former Yorkshire player and bowling coach Richard Pyrah had informed the England and Wales Cricket Board on Tuesday that he would not be attending, leading Andrew Gale, Matthew Hoggard, John Blain, and Tim Bresnan, who refused to participate in the process. However, the Cricket Discipline Commission panel will also hear the charges against those five individuals in their absence. Gary Ballance, the other person convicted, has pleaded guilty to a charge of using racial discriminatory words and will not appear, according to the ECB.

Gary Ballance will NOT return to duty for Yorkshire until his disrepute charge is heard

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 9, 2022
Gary Ballance will not return to Yorkshire service until the Cricket Discipline Commission has heard his disrepute charge, putting his future with the club into doubt once more. Ballance, one of seven people summoned by the ECB to look into allegations of bigotry at the club, did not report for winter training with the remainder of the first-team squad at Headingley this week because he wants to concentrate on getting the discipline process out of the way first. Since signing a new lucrative, three-year contract in September 2021, the 32-year-old Yorkshire's highest-paid player hasn't played a single match for the club.

The racism trial of England cricket, according to Azeem Rafiq, will be held in public this month

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 2, 2022
BY MATT HUGHES (exclusive): Sportmail has learned that the Cricket Discipline Commission [CDC], which also includes former England players Matthew Hoggard, Tim Bresnan, and Gary Ballance, informed all parties on Wednesday that the trial of seven ex-Yorkshire players charged with using racist words against Azeem Rafiq, which also includes former England players Matthew Hoggard, Tim Bresnan, and Gary Ballance, will begin on Tuesday, with adoutput: The ECB had argued against breaking convention by holding the hearing in public on the grounds that much of the evidence they collected has been obtained in private and could not be admissible, but the CDC has rejected this and ruled in favour of Azeem Rafiq, who has pushed for an open hearing throughout. Tim O'Gorman, a former Derbyshire bowler, was fortnight ago, but legal arguments over whether the full hearing should be open were dominated by legal arguments, with the three-person CDC panel confirming their decision on Wednesday.

Following shocking Rafiq allegations, the ECB cleared Alex Hales of bigotry without speaking with him

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 8, 2022
BY MATT HUGHES: The ECB has brought disciplinary charges against seven former England players, including former England captain Michael Vaughan, for allegedly using racist words against Rafiq, but the governing body did not take further action against Hales after his written request. When Rafiq claimed that Kevin was widely used by England players as a term for people from black and Asian backgrounds, he provoked uproar last November. The 31-year-old claimed that the offensive nickname was born by former Yorkshire teammate Gary Ballance and became highly popular in England's dressing room, which led to Hales' name of his black dog Kevin.

Gary Ballance has expressed regret for his 'unacceptable' and "racist" words for Azeem Rafiq

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 25, 2022
Gary Ballance apologised for using racist words against him. Azeem Rafiq, a former Yorkshire teammate, was given an unreserved apology by Gary Ballance for using racist words against him. Ballance, 32, spoke to his former colleague earlier this week, and said: 'I apologise unreservedly to Azeem for the terms I used when we played together.' 'I did use offensive - and even racist - words at times.' I would have stopped immediately if I had known how much money it hurt Azeem. That's why I wanted to see him and be sure in person that I intended no malice. That's not an excuse, and I'm sure that the word I used was wrong.

A racist jury in Yorkshire could derail England's Twenty20 World Cup plans

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 10, 2022
According to sources, England could have their Twenty20 World Cup preparations significantly hampered due to several of their participants being asked to testify in the Yorkshire racial tribunal shortly before the tournament begins. The tribunal is set to take place in October, when England's squad is due to jet off to Australia ahead of their World Cup opener against Afghanistan against Afghanistan on October 22. According to The Telegraph, the lawsuit, which stemmed from former Yorkshire cricketer Azeem Rafiq's allegations, will be heard by the Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC), and could result in them wanting to consult leg-spinner Adil Rashid.

Vaughan and five other former Yorkshire cricketers' convictions on racial charges are set to begin

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 10, 2022
Exclusive BY MATT HUGHES Matthew Hoggard, Tim Bresnan, and Gary Ballance have all been charged with using racist words against Azeem Rafiq, as have former Yorkshire players Richard Pyrah and John Blain, although former Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale has declined to comply with a procedure he has described as a witch hunt. The six other defendants, including Vaughan, deny the charges and insist they will mount a slew of defence, with their legal teams likely to launch their defense by pointing out suspected errors in the ECB's probe. Sportsmail has learned that some potentially vital witnesses will be unable to testify because they have been required to sign non-disclosure agreements by Yorkshire, although other key witnesses are currently out of the country and therefore unable to testify in person.
