Pre-production in Melbourne's Docklands Studios has stopped on Apple TV's big budget version of Fritz Lang's 1927 sci-fi masterpiece Metropolis. The streaming series was 'permanently canceled' before it could properly begin due to rising costs and the 2023 Writers Guild of America's strike in Hollywood. According to a Universal Content Productions rep, it was a "difficult decision" to pull the show down, but it needed to be done, and it had to be done," according to Deadline on Sunday.
