In a spellbinding new book with riveting archive photographs, it's an extraordinary tale of derring-do told in a riveting new book - and it's certainly worthy of a Hollywood movie as well. Geir O Klover's Nansen Photographs, published by Teneues, chronicles 12 intrepid men led by Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen, who set off from Norway in June 1893 with the intention of reaching the North Pole. They sailed in a wooden ship named Fram, packed with skis, kayaks, tight woolly jumpers, and 3,000 bottles of beer, as well as fierce polar bear and walruse attacks.
