Frans de Potter (4 January 1834, Ghent; 15 August 1904) was a Belgian writer. He was Chief Clerk of Fondsenblad Ghent and the Flemish Academy's secretary from 1886 to 1918.
He left an extensive body of work, including Geschiedenis van Behren (1854), a cantata by Volksliederen (1861), Geschiedenis van Beieren, (1880). His Vlaamsche bibliographie of 1893, as well as his Geschiedenis van der Oost-Vlaanderen, are of particular note. (46 volumes).
In Vlaanderen, in 1870, he was recognized for his Gemeentefeesten.
Robert van Valois te Gent (1862), his first book, was also written. Frans de Potter, the main founder of the Roman Catholic Davidsfonds and its first general secretary, founded the Flemish Academy in Ghent in 1886 as an extension to the Royal Academy in Brussels.
