Personal life
Farhad Safinia was born in 1975 in Tehran, Iran. He and his family left Iran at the age of four to live in Paris, then London. He studied at Charterhouse and then at King's College, Cambridge, where he concentrated on Economics. He directed and appeared in a number of stage productions for the Cambridge University Amateur Dramatic Club and other theatre companies while at King's. After graduating, he travelled to New York City, where he concentrated on film at the New School University and the Tisch School of the Arts in New York City. In the summer of 2007, he married actress Laura Regan in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
