Eugene Boris Mirman (born July 24, 1974) is a Russian-American actor, comedian, and writer best known for his appearances on Delocated and Gene Belcher's animated comedy Bob's Burgers.
Early life
Mirman was born Evgeniy Borisovich Mirman (Russian: ирман) on July 24, 1974, in Moscow, Russia, when the country was part of the Soviet Union, to Boris Mirman, Jewish Latvian, and Marina, a Jewish Russian. His father was a civil engineer. When he was four years old, his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Lexington, Massachusetts, where Mirman attended William Diamond Middle School and Lexington High School. His name was anglicized upon arrival in the United States, his first name was renamed to its English form, Eugene, and Boris' patronymic Boris was shorted to Boris.
Mirman is a graduate of Hampshire College in Western Massachusetts. Mirman graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in comedy and a one-hour schedule as his thesis, as part of the college's "design your own major" program. He returned to his high school to address the 2009 commencement address. He returned to Hampshire to deliver the 2012 commencement address as well.
Personal life
Mirman married set decorator Katie Westfall-Tharp (1980 – 2020), who appeared on shows including Inside Amy Schumer and Human Giant, on September 7, 2015, and the two continued married until Westfall-Tharp's death from cancer on January 29, 2020. They had one child together, son Oliver, who was born in 2016.
Career
A CD/DVD on Suicide Squeeze Records was released by Mirman in 2004 as The Absurd Nightclub Comedies of Eugene Mirman. Both The A.V. and The A.V. named the album as one of the Best Albums of 2004. Time Out New York's Club and Time Out En Garde Society, Sub Pop's second album, was released in 2006. God Is a Twelve-Year-Old Boy with Aspergers, Mirman's third comedy album, was released in Chicago at the Lakeshore Theatre three years later. In 2012, Mirman released An Evening Of Comedy In A Fake Underground Laboratory.
Mirman has appeared in the United States. The Just for Laughs Festival in Aspen, Colorado, is the annual comedy festival that takes place in Montreal, Bumbershoot, and Southwest. Invite the M Up Up show, co-produced by Bobby Tisdale and Holly Schlesinger, which was a winner of the Nightlife Award. The comedians Mike Birbiglia, Aziz Ansari, David Cross, and Chelsea Peretti were among the Guests. According to New York Magazine, he currently produces Pretty Good Friends (formerly Tearing the Veil of Maya) at Union Hall in Park Slope, Brooklyn, which has been named the best comedy night in New York City. Mirman performs in rock clubs and theaters rather than in traditional comedy clubs, much like comedians David Cross and Patton Oswalt. Mirman is often touring the United States and occasionally opens for the comedy troupe Stella (former members of The State). Modest Mouse, Yo La Tengo, Gogol Bordello, Andrew Bird, and Cake have performed for various bands, including The Shins and The Shins, along with Modest Mouse, Yo La Tengo, Gogol Bordello, Andrew Bird, and Cake. Mirman said in 2012 that opening for musicians is rare and that music concerts sell at three times more than a comedy performance. On the Comedians of Comedy tour, Mirman also traveled with Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, and Maria Bamford. He has appeared on stage as an opener for the comedy duo Flight of the Conchords (and appeared on HBO's The Conchords as a regular actor) and in Stand Uppity with Andy Kindler and Marc Maron.
