Where did it all go wrong for Burberry? As profits slump by 40% how the brand struggled to shake off the 'Chav' check reputation and sparked controversy with divisive campaigns and by burning excess stock

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 16, 2024
From the Sloane Rangers to the Cool Britannia bunch, anyone who was someone had their wardrobe dripping in the heritage checks of the brand once considered to be London 's version of Chanel - Burberry. Here, FEMAIL explores where Burberry may have gone wrong, from how nova check became a nightmare (left), 'creepy' campaigns (centre), controversial advertisements (right), burning excess stock, and confusing advertisement deals (right inset).

After 102 years, Sir Ernest Shackleton's barometer has been FOUND: The instrument that was hanging on the wall of the ship's cabin during the explorer's last Antarctic expedition has gone up for auction - and it could sell for £8,000

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 2, 2024
The scientific instrument was attached to the wall of Shackleton's private cabin on the ship R.Y.S Quest, where he died in 1922 during an expedition to Antarctica. The barometer still functions after more than a hundred years. Henry Aldridge & Son auctioneers, a defunct auction house based in Devizes, Wiltshire, is now auctioning it. Major Woods' letter, which is being auctioned on April 27, includes a note written when the object was first presented (right).

If you want to leave the United Kingdom, Sir Ernest Shackleton's Polar Medal will be a lot of money

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 3, 2024
Sir Ernest Shackleton, an Anglo-Irish Antarctic explorer who went on three British expeditions to the southern pole, two of which he led. He was awarded the Polar Medal, also known as the Arctic Medal, until 1904, for his contributions in the field of polar research. The silver badge has been engraved with an export bar, which the government claims is the last of Sir Ernest's medals in the United Kingdom. Lord Parkinson of Whitley Bay, the Arts and Heritage Minister, followed the bar on the recommendations of the Review Committee on Works of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest, which concluded that its removal from the UK would be a misfortune due to the item's historical significance.
