Early life
Melissa Miller, born in New York City, Emme was born in Saudi Arabia and returned to the United States as an adult to attend Kent School in northwest Connecticut. Emme and her family returned to the United States, settling in Houston when Emme was in high school. She then attended the Kent School in Connecticut, where she joined the rowing team.
She discusses the fact that her stepfather commanded her at age 12 to strip down to her underwear while he used a black marker and drew circles on her upper legs, hips, stomach, and arms to show where she needed to lose weight.
Emme was given a full athletic scholarship and joined the crew team, as well as numerous U.S. National Team trials.
She spent two years in Flagstaff, Arizona, where she served as a reporter and morning anchor for NBC affiliate KNAZ-TV after graduating in 1985.
Personal life
Melanie, Emme's sister, is also a model. Emme married Phillip Aronson in 1989 and moved to New Jersey. Toby, Emme's daughter, was born in 2001. She divorced her husband in 2007 and then decided to divorce in 2008. Toby Cole, Emme's daughter, was featured in Teen Vogue and is currently signed at IMG Models.
Emme was diagnosed with Stage 2a Hodgkin's lymphoma in May 2007 – a form of lymphoma that is often curable by radiation and chemotherapy. She underwent surgery and doctors said she was "cancer-free" in November 2007.
Professional life
She was the first female model to be a spokesperson for Revlon in 1998. Emme had a sportswear collection of sized 2–26 women's clothing on display at QVC under the me BY EMME brand and the Emme Collection sportswear line, which were sold to department stores. Emme's name and image are used to raise funds for body image and self-esteem charities.
