Emma Jung Life

Emma Jung (born Emma Marie Rauschenbach, 30 March 1882 to August 27, 1955) was a Swiss Jungian analyst and writer.

Carl Gustav Jung married her, financing and assisting him in his rise to fame as the best psychiatrist and researcher of analytical psychology, and they had five children together.

She was his "intellective editor" from the beginning of her life, despite his infidelities and mood swings.

Jung described her as "a Queen" after she died.

Early life

Emma Rauschenbach was the granddaughter of a wealthy industrialist, Johannes Rauschenbach, who was then the owner of IWC Schaffhausen. She was Switzerland's second-richest heiress at the time of her marriage.

Family life

Emma Rauschenbach was first introduced to C. G. Jung in 1896 when she was still a schoolgirl by a family friend of his father. Jung said at the time that he knew Emma would be his wife one day. The couple married on February 14, 1903, seven years ago. They had five children (four daughters and one son): Agathe, Gret, Franz Karl, Marianne, and Helene.

Emma and her sister, along with their husbands, became the IWC Schaffhausen - the International Watch Company, manufacturers of luxury timepieces, following her father's death in 1905. Emma's brother-in-law became the principal proprietor, but the Jungs remained shareholders in a burgeoning industry that guaranteed the family's financial stability for decades.

Emma Jung not only took an interest in her husband's work, but she also assisted him and became a well-known analyst in her own right. She developed a particular interest in the Grail. Around 1910–11, she had a brief correspondence of her own with Sigmund Freud. Freud interpreted several of Jung's dreams of the time as portending the "failure of a marriage for money" (das Scheitern von Geldheirat).
