Ella Mai Is Just Geting Off: "We Box Ourselves in So Much We Box It's Best If I Can Do It"

Ella Mai's presence on the internet is more like hanging out with one of your closest friends. So much so, you'd be forgiven for forgetting that she's actually a Grammy Award-winning performer with a massive fanbase and two smashing albums under her belt. The 28-year-old girl has a confidence beyond her years and a warmth that makes you feel at ease; rare characteristics in the world of fame. And it's also apparent that her family's thoughtful words hold her grounded. "My brother told me something really cool a few years ago, and he said it's your own voice when you speak to yourself in your head." she tells POPSUGAR about how she avoids negativity on social media. "So if you're reading a note from someone that you have no idea who they are from, you're reading it to yourself, which validates it a lot more." I'd never thought of it that way, but it was like a new thing unlocked in my head."

See The Winners List for 2023 Grammy Awards

If it isn't triggered by Beyoncé, the 2023 Grammys conversation seems to be just incomplete or willfully delusional. The mega-star is at the forefront of this year's nominations, totaling nine, but it's the story surrounding her appearance on the show (and this one in particular) that's the driving force throughout the season. Fans have been pining for a rematch after Adele's 25 beat out Bey's Lemonade at the 2017 show. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Grammy season, but it doesn't seem quite right. Bey's Renaissance is so much bigger than a pop album; it's a history lesson in Black and electronic music that doesn't sound like (and isn't) a party. Who wouldn’t be in the corner of an album like that?

As she leads actors at the Black Music Collective festival, Ciara sizzles in a backless gown

Ciara stole attention when she arrived at the Black Music Collective's performance at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on Thursday. With a mermaid train, the Goodies hitmaker, 37, sizzled in a backless low-cut black velvet hooded gown that displayed her tone and her long cleavage. The singer, who recently rocked a LBD for a night out, accessorized the fashionable style with a gold glove and wreaked her bleach blonde tresses in curls underneath the velvet cape.

Rashad D. Grove explains it. Lucky Daye has emerged as a torchbearer of the genre's rich past while still curating music that defies categation. Daye, the multiple Grammy award-nominated singer-songwriter, has been redefining modern R&B, as he says, "a futuristic sci-fi world influenced by Afrofuturism's inspiration." In other words, Daye's prolific songwriting and penchant for producing mesmerizing melodies have taken his listeners back to the future. He claims that this unique feature makes him stand out amongst his peers.
