DR MICHAEL MOSLEY: Not many of us would be willing to be infected with a potentially lethal new virus in the name of science. But early in the pandemic, in a first-of-its-kind trial for Covid, 36 healthy - and brave young people died of coronavirus, so scientists could learn as much as possible about this lethal new threat to science. I've participated in some gruesome and often painful experiments myself, including intentionally ingesting tapeworm eggs so that scientists at Liverpool University can investigate the worm's effect on my immune system. However, apart from the initial resentment of swallowing the eggs, I barely noticed them until I saw photographs from a pill camera that I took months later.
