Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is backing 'nonviolent' pro-Palestinian demonstrators who have disrupted Columbia University by setting up an encampment on the campus grounds in protest of U.S. support for Israel in the war in Gaza. The New York progressive denounced Columbia President Minouche Shafik for allegedly threatening to call in the National Guard to disperse the group of demonstrators who call themselves the Gaza Solidarity Encampment. 'Calling in police enforcement on nonviolent demonstrations of young students on campus is an escalatory, reckless, and dangerous act,' AOC wrote on X.

Biden's delay in unleashing retaliatory strikes on Iran-backed militants 'is down to bad weather' with US forces preferring to strike when skies are clearer across Middle East

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 2, 2024
According to a military source, President Biden delayed the planned retribution strikes against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels due to "poor weather." The president has declared himself on the strikes, meaning it's a question of when, not if, the United States will strike back in the aftermath of the deaths of three servicemen last week in Jordan at the hands of a Houthi drone. According to CBS News, CENTCOM forces in the Middle East would rather wait until the region's conditions improve before launching the counterattack.

PETER HITCHENS: Our hostility to Iran has only helped keep the ghastly Mullahs in power

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 3, 2024
Why do we make such a bogeyman out of Iran? What is the British interest in keeping up hostility between us and that country? What good has it done us and is it justified? The matter is always urgent, but after the assassination of Saleh al-Arouri, a Hamas envoy to Iranian-backed Hizbollah in Beirut, is more relevant than ever. The assassination, which is suspected of being Israel, may have been intended to bring Iran into the smouldering conflict between Israel and Hamas. Israel's hostility against Iran has been denied and straight explained, but the two countries' long-term relationship has been tense. The Iranian regime has been strongly anti-Israel since 1979, and Israel has retaliated the rage.

Six troops were killed during horrific Operation Smash D-Day rehearsals in 1944, and a frightful divers knocked off turret and cannon was destroyed,' according to a tragic diver who knocked off turret and cannon

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 20, 2023
During a botched attempt to illegally move a buoy that was marking it, the turbinet and cannon were knocked off the roof of the covered Duplex Drive Valentine tank. Divers would have had to reach the planned historical monument if haphazard efforts to make it possible for divers to reach the scheduled historical site by a small team based on a winch on the sea. The buoy was weighed down to a two-tonne steel sinker weight, and when they attempted to lift and move it, the block collided with the tank. The heavy turret collapsed into the seabed next to the tank, which had been sealed shut since it sank in 60 feet of water in Studland Bay, Dorset, almost 80 years ago. The wreckage was only discovered when other recreational divers visited the wreck site in September 2022. Since then, marine archaeologists from Bournemouth University have been glued to the tank to investigate. To try and save the contents, they also covered the roof with sandbags (right).

The one puzzle that GCHQ has never been able to solve is the one that has threptered – as the spy service's annual Christmas code cracking competition takes place

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 18, 2023
If you're planning to spend a portion of Christmas on a warm sofa debating the day's crossword puzzle, then you owe at least a small vote of thanks to Leonard Dawe. Dawe, a brilliant footballer who competed for both Southampton and England's amateur team before World War I, had resigned as a science tutor at St Paul's School in London, when he began working as a science tutor at The Daily Telegraph in 1925. It involved the so-called 'cross-word puzzle,' an American novelty that had recently crossed the Atlantic and was proving to be a huge hit with readers of popular newspapers. Some of the Telegraph's calls for action. So Dawe was hired to produce a provocative, although perhaps more cerebral, version of the brain teaser for its pages. He created a particular version of the puzzle, which revolved around in-jokes and subtle wordplay. The whole thing was addictive, according to the readers.

DOWNLOAD: Biden's 'nuclear football' includes a BOOK that shows how to launch an attack by calling a 'Looking Glass' plane and a spherical bunker, which is where four main ignite missiles are located

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 26, 2023
A book that teaches them how to launch a nuclear attack is included in 'nuclear football' carried by the President of the United States. One of five military aides to President - one from each branch of the Armed Forces: army, navy, air forces, marines, and coast guard - all wears the 'nuclear football' in close proximity to the leader. In a spherical bunker, the command is sent to a 'Looking Glass' plane and officers. To ignite the missiles and launch the attack, those officers use several different keys. Since Dwight D. Eisenhower's 1950s 'nuclear football' has been played by nearly every president since that time.

MEGHAN MCCAIN: Because they fear him, tens of thousands of soldiers armed against Ron DeSantis are smearing him. But I'll keep this respected executive over America's aging politicos

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 17, 2023
MCCAIN: There isn't a person in the 2024 race who has been subjected to as much unrelent negativity as the Florida governor. Notice how the powers arrayed against him - both on the left and right - are united behind a single argument: that a candidate's appearances matter more than actual achievements. Trump's campaign sends out daily emails announcing an imminent 'KISS OF DEATH COUNTDOWN' for the DeSantis campaign. They once hired a plane to fly over the Iowa State Fair with a banner that read, 'be likable Ron.' Since Trump is expected to win the nomination, the left-wing media is more than willing to participate. They believe he will be defeated by Biden in 2024, so they're able to point the way for him just as they did in 2016. 'Awkward Americans see themselves in Ron DeSantis: But do they like what they see?' Read a Washington Post headline. 'Given the choice between voting for him and getting a Pap smear from a girl I went to high school with,' one woman interviewed in the article said, 'hand me the paper gown.' Well, now's the deal. But is personality such an important quality?

KENNEDY: Meatball Ron! Now you're a limp dude with your snakebite antidote to Joe and their tired brands of mad. But here's how you CAN get your groove back (God knows America needs it)

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 17, 2023
KENNEDY: The traumatic prospect of having to choose a president from two struggling old guys who promise to sham us all with their stale products of mad. One is in rapid mental decline, while the other is a aging megalomaniac who will put vengeance above policy for 'the country's benefit.' Ron DeSantis was supposed to be the antidote to the snake bites we're suffering in this American political wilderness. The thinking man's Florida Man was supposed to swoop in like a young, captivist crusader armed with a 20-point, purple state gubernatorial win and a post-COVID roadmap to freedom. Ronald Reagan was supposed to be a hard-charging transformer, but Trump's Dwight D. Eisenhower was supposed to be a hard-charging transformer. A handsome veteran of a wealthy young family, who was going to fire straight into the White House, was destined to shoot out of a cannon straight into the White House. Rather, his campaign launched a limp dud in a sarcastic Twitter Bash, and he's been limping on ever since. Can Meatball Ron get his groove back? Well, but it will take a lot more than demoting his campaign manager and shaking the staff snow globe if he's going to be more than the Todd Marinovich of presidential politics.

How Christopher Nolan Told the "Oppenheimer" Novel using Black-and-White Film

www.popsugar.co.uk, July 24, 2023
Warning: the following article contains spoilers from "Oppenheimer." Christopher Nolan's sweeping film "Oppenheimer" tells the true tale of J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), who supervised the development of the world's first atomic weapons as part of the Manhattan Project during World War II. The film chronicles his life from his days as a young man in Europe to his early professorship in California, and follows him from World War II to years in which the government came after him for having communist ties during the Red Scare. However, the film "Oppenheimer" has quite a few black-and-white shots in comparison to the full-color ones, which is interesting. Why does "Oppenheimer" switch between black and white and full colour? Nolan seems to have used both methods to increase the plot.

With a heavy gun unit in Ukraine, IAN BIRRELL spends two frozen days dug in

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 23, 2023
IAN BIRRELL: The Ukrainian troops were hiding among the trees and buried in hobbit-like holes underneath the snow. However, the Russian drones were still circling overhead. The troops had managed to shoot down six of these aircraft, which were often packed with explosives, over the past two days. As a souvenir, the team's medic gave me a set of wings. By the frontline, shells were already landing in this wooded encampment. Three men were injured by shrapnel and the back wheels of a lorry had been blown off. Several trees bear the scars of war, with splintered trunks and branches cut off. 'Now we have a lot of wood for the grill,' one soldier chuckled over his camouflage gear, wearing a fleece.' However, an enemy drone launched all their attempts to bring it down and dropped a bomb right onto one of the Ukrainians' precious U.S.-made howitzers shortly after breakfast on Monday. The long barrel was shot open near the base, and the target system was destroyed - so the team had to move two miles away to shield their remaining two field guns after one week in this frontline position, firing up to 150 rounds a day.

It was originally owned by US President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Gary Zimet, a rare manuscript dealer, told the MoS, 'This is one of the twentieth century's most valuable books.'

Jerry Jones, 14, appears in a newly discovered photograph from 1957 that depicts a group of white students at North Little Rock High's North Little Rock High preventing six African-American teenagers from attending and integrating the school. Jones, the Dallas Cowboys' owner, has confirmed that it is him in the photo, which was discovered by the Washington Post. In the photograph, which was taken during a rash of civil rights demonstrations in the Little Rock area, the 80-year-old billionaire said he looked "like a little burrhead." President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent federal troops to Little Rock's Central High in September of 1957 to escort black students to class as they were threatened and spit at by white, racial demonstrators. Jim Albright, Jones' football coach, had warned players not to attend the much awaited scene on the first day of classes at North Little Rock High, as Jones told the Journal. Jones disobeyed, but says he did so out of curiosity, not because of racial motives. 'I don't know that I or anyone anticipated or had a history of knowing... what was involved,' he said. 'It was more a curious thing.'

Winston Churchill: Famed photograph of British PM vanishes from Canadian hotel, replaced with a fake

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 24, 2022
The famous photograph (left) - nicknamed 'the Roaring Lion' and taken by Yousuf Karsh (top-inset) in 1941 - had been on display at the Château Laurier hotel (right and bottom inest) in Ottawa since 1998. However, an employee at the hotel noticed the photograph had been updated and told the police, who are now probing the case. Last Friday night, a staff member at the historic hotel, which is just down the road from Parliament Hill, noticed something wrong with the portrait. When looking at the other portraits in the lounge, which were also shot by Karsh, he realized that the frame did not match. Jerry Fielder, the hotel's general manager who was recruited by the photographer himself in 1979, was summoned to visit the Château Laurier. It was announced that it was a fake.
