Renaldo Duncan, a Romanian-born American actor best known for his role as The Cisco Kid in films and on the 1950-1956 American TV series The Cisco Kid, Renaldo Duncan (April 23, 1904 – September 3, 1980).

Early years

Renaldo told some interviewers that he did not know where he was born. A copy of a birth certificate forwarded by the Romanian consul stating that he was born in Oancea, Romania, as Vasile Dumitru Cugheanos, Dumitru Cugheanos, the natural son of Dumitru and Teodora Cugheanos, was admissible in his immigration case. Renaldo said in his defense that he was born in Camden, New Jersey, and that he was only later raised in Romania as Basil Couyanos by people whom he sometimes referred to as "mother" and "father" but "father" more often than not, but Demetri and Theodora.

Renaldo said he never knew his biological parents and was raised in several European countries. In the 1920s, he immigrated to America. In 1917, he claimed Romanian nationality and entered the country as a foreign seaman, but the prosecution reveals he was born as a coal passer on the S. Puget Sound in 1917, which occurred four years later in 1921; that year, he landed in Baltimore, Maryland. He attempted to sell himself as a portrait painter, but he did try making short films. He began acting and then joined Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1928, where he appeared in at least two major films, The Bridge of San Luis Rey and Trader Horn. Renaldo was sentenced to two years in federal jail and fined $2000 on suspicion of falsely claiming American citizenship, falsifying a passport, and persuading, but President Franklin D. Roosevelt pardoned him to return to acting in January 1933.

He spent time in Republic Studios and other Poverty Row studios until being convinced by Republic head Herbert Yates in 1939 to introduce a Latin cowboy into the Three Meshoneers series. The character remained in the series for a year, but Renaldo's return to minor roles in B-films, for example Tiger Fangs (1943). Renaldo appeared in mainstream films, including Spawn of the North (1938), with George Raft, Henry Fonda, and John Barrymore, as well as For Whom the Bell Tolls with Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman. He worked as a writer, editor, and director.

Renaldo appeared in several Hollywood westerns as The Cisco Kid in the 1940s, and in 1950, he appeared in a hit television series that ran until 1956. The program was shot in color in the days of black-and-white television. As Cisco, Renaldo rode the Old West on a black-and-white horse called Diablo, accompanied by his faithful companion, Pancho, who was 24 years old Leo Carrillo.

Renaldo illustrated a book of poetry by Moreton B. Drifter's Dreams is priced. His illustrations are ink sketches of idyllic scenes, mainly seascapes and landscapes. He also painted in oils. In 1971, two of his large paintings of members of the Maasai tribe, whom he encountered in Kenya while filming Trader Horn, were prominently displayed in his Santa Barbara home.

Renaldo died of lung cancer in 1980, aged 76, in Goleta, California. His burial took place in Calvary Cemetery in Santa Barbara, California.
