Doris Coley Life

Doris Coley (August 2, 1941 – February 4, 2000), an American singer, who was best known as a member (and occasionally lead singer) of The Shirelles.

She joined the company in 1968 but then returned in 1975.

Personal life

Coley was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina, but she and her family migrated to Passaic, New Jersey, where they later moved with her family. Shirley Owens (later Shirley Alston Reeves), Addie "Micki" Harris, and Beverly Lee formed the Shirelles in Passaic in 1958, one of the first all-girl groups of the rock era. The four teenagers did not graduate with their 1958 classmate, but they did earn diplomas later. Florence Greenberg's self-written "I Met Him On A Sunday" was released on her Tiara album (the song was so popular, it was purchased by Decca Records). Kenner performed with the Shirelles' other surviving members, Ms. Alston Reeves and Ms. Lee, for the first time in 19 years (Harris died in 1982). When the threesome were inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, they met again.
