Dominic Chianese (born February 24, 1931) is an American actor, singer, and musician.

He is best known for his role as Corrado "Junior" Soprano on the HBO series The Sopranos, and Johnny Ola in The Godfather Part II.

Early life

Chianese was born in the Bronx, New York. His father was a bricklayer. His paternal grandfather immigrated to the United States from Naples in 1904 and settled in the Bronx. Chianese graduated from the Bronx High School of Science in 1948.

Career

Chianese attended his first professional acting class at HB Studio in Manhattan, with renowned coach Walt Witcover. After a decade of attending college and appearing in off-Broadway theatre. Chianese's passions, drama and musical theater, became a passion.

His first Broadway show was Oliver!

In 1965, the first settlers appeared in a bookstore. He has continued to appear in Broadway, Off Broadway, and regional theatre. He played rhythm guitar and performed in taverns and restaurants, as well as being the master of ceremonies at the open microphone night in Greenwich Village, in order to supplement income in the dry season. When George C. Scott recommended him for a role in the critically acclaimed series East Side/West Side, Chianese's first television appearance was in the acclaimed series East Side/West Side. In 1974, Francis Ford Coppola cast Johnny Ola in The Godfather Part II, which sparked a film career and culminated in several films (and plays) with Al Pacino.

Chianese served with the Drug Enforcement of New York State as a recreational worker in a rehabilitation facility before being cast in The Godfather Part II. He taught guitar to women who were doing time for drug-related offences.

Chianese was given the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2010 for his humanitarian efforts.

Chianese has appeared in four films with Al Pacino:

Chianese is a natural tenor and guitarist. In 2000, he released Hits, a CD on which he performs American and Italian songs, which he recorded in Nashville. On the third-season finale of The Sopranos, Salvatore Cardillo's sentimental masterpiece "Core 'ngrato" ("Ungrateful Heart") appeared (Army of One). Chianese and AOL Music co-released Ungrateful Heart, a collection of 16 classic Neapolitan songs on two CDs in 2003. He appeared in a mandolin quartet weekly at the Hotel Edison, New York City, in the 2000s.

Leander Whitlock, a former prosecutor and power broker, appeared as a guest actor on HBO's Boardwalk Empire for three seasons.

Chianese's Twelve Angels: The Women Who Taught Me How to Act, Live, and Love was published in December 2018.
