Dina Carroll (born Geraldine Carroll, 21 August 1968) is an English singer.

"It's Too Late" (1991), "Don't Be a Stranger" (1993), and "Escaping" (1996).

So Close (1993) and Only Human (1996), her first two albums, both reached number two on the UK Albums Chart and went platinum.

At the 1994 British Awards, she was named Best British Female Solo Artist.

Early career

Carroll was born in Newmarket, England, to a Scottish mother and an American father. She began singing at the age of five, and, despite the need of formal vocal guidance, she won a local talent competition in 1981, at the age of 13, with her interpretation of Barbra Streisand's "Woman in Love." She worked in a variety of careers, including a one-day stint as a chambermaid in a Cambridge hotel in 1985.

She was signed to Morgan Khan's London-based record company StreetSounds, mainly a compilations firm known for its electro music albums at the age of sixteen. Carroll left West London and released two singles from the company's StreetWave dance music singles label "Set It Off" and "One Country." Both albums were released in 1985 and were credited to a non-existent band named Masquerade, with "One Nation Under a Groove" and "Tear the Roof Off the Sucker" referring to a number of Parliament-Funkadelic hits such as "One Country Under a Groove" and "Get Up the Funk" being a track based on a number of Parliament-Funkadelic songs such as "One Country Under a Groove" and "One Nation Under e a based on a based on a track "One Nation Under o "One Country Under a a Groove" and "Under a Sucker "Give a Sucker "Give a Sucker ("Give" and "Give a Sucker ("Give of a Sucker." Carroll signed a recording deal with Jive Records/Zomba in 1989 and 1990, and a number of singles followed. Of particular note was her coverage of Dionne Warwick's classic "Walk On By," co-produced by The Pasadenas who also provided vocal arrangement and backing vocals. Although "Walk On By" did not make it to the UK top 40 (peaking at number 95), it was still a minor success in continental Europe. "People All Around the World" and "Me Sienta Sola (We Are One) were two of the era's best-selling solo albums, the former being an underground club on the New York scene. Carroll performed the vocals to Brothers "Peace and Harmony" and Simon Harris' "Don't Stop the Music" in 1990 (guesting with Monte Luv), but the former's "Such a Good Feeling" and the latter's "How Low Can You Go) did not make it to the top 40.

Carroll was spotted by Dennis Ingoldsby, one half of First Avenue Management, a small and newly formed management company, after a short time at Jive Records. First Avenue was already a dance performance duo called Quartz, made up of Ronnie Herel and Dave Rawlings, and so Carroll was brought on to provide vocals for the duo's cover of Carole King's "It's Too Late." This issue debuted at the top of the dance charts and landed at No. 1 on the charts. In early 1991, the UK Singles Chart at 8 was the first to be published, so a follow-up project was also underway. "Naked Love (Just Say You Want Me)" was the first hit single for Quartz, and the last hit single for the site.

First Avenue decided to relaunch Carroll as a solo artist after these two singles on Quartz, and managing director Howard Berman has signed him to A&M Records. "Ain't No Man" was Carroll's first solo single (written and produced by Nigel Lowis), a hit on the charts in June 1992, debuting at number 16 in the charts.

Later career

First Avenue Management began to fail in 2000 when the bulk of their artists were dropped by their names, e.g. Eternal, Louise, Dana Dawson, Kele Le Roc, Honeyz, Kéllé Bryan, Michelle Gayle, etc. Both of their shows had declining ticket sales, and Carroll was also caught up in this so they moved to First Avenue at the end of 2000.

Carroll also published The Very Best of Dina Carroll, a 2001 solo and a greatest hits collection. Carroll's cover version of Van Morrison's "Someone Like You," which appeared in Bridget Jones' Diary soundtrack, reached number 38. Carroll published The Very Best of Dina Carroll in June 2001 to honor her contractual obligations to Mercury. It debuted at No. 1 in the UK Albums Chart at no. 1. 15, despite the fact that she had only released two studio albums to date, they had both sold enough copies to earn multi-platinum awards.

Carroll left Universal Music Group in 2002 as a result of her departure.

Carroll created a version of "Almaz" by Randy Crawford in 2003.

Carroll appeared on "We Bring the Party" by the Dig Band in 2016, produced by longtime collaborator Nigel Lowis.

Carroll performed her live appearance on the "David Gest Is Not Dead But Alive With Soul" tour in 2016.
