Dieter Bohlen Career

Life and career

Bohlen, the eldest son of building contractor Hans Bohlen (born 1928), and his partner Edith (born 1936), who lived in East Frisia. His maternal grandmother is a descendant of Königsberg. He was named Dieter Günter Bohlen, but later expressed dissatisfaction with his second given name and was officially banned. Uwe is his younger brother. The family lived in Eversten (Oldenburg). Bohlen was a member of the Socialist German Workers Youth for a while and shortly of the German Communist Party, but he is not a member of any party now. He moved to Göttingen after obtaining his Abitur at the Wirtschaftsgymnasium der Berufsbildenden Schulen in Oldenburg-Haarentor. He studied business administration at his parents' behest at the Georg-August University, where he graduated in 1978 with a degree.

When Bohlen first started writing, he was still in school. He worked as a songwriter for a number of Schlager artists in the late 1970s. Holger Garbode and his pall pals formed the Monza duo in 1978. Bohlen's first single, "Hallo Taxi Nummer 10," was written and produced by Tony Hendrik, was released, but it was unprofitable. "Heiße Nacht in der City," Monza's second single, a German-language translation of Nick Gilder's "Hot Child in the City," which was also unsuccessful. He started working with Hansa, a Berlin-based company. "Don't Throw My Love Away" was released by Steve Benson in English as a solo single. It was followed by two other singles under the name "Love Takes Time" and "You're A Devil With" Angel Blue Eyes in 1981. None of them made it to the top 100, which resulted in the project's cancellation in 1981. He joined the band "Halé, hey Louise" in early 1982, which was shortly followed. Artists like Ricky King had covered the song. Bernd Clüver's "Mit 17" became the third place in the German pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1983.

Bohlen formed the pop duo Modern Talking after Bohlen produced six unsuccessful singles in German for Schlager singer Thomas Anders from 1982 to 1984. "You're My Heart, You're My Soul," "Cheri, Cheri Love," "Brother Louie," "You Can Win If You Want," and "Atlantis Is Calling" were all top German singles charts for the fifth time in a row. They're also successful in other European countries, Asia, and Africa. In 1987, the band split up, and Bohlen developed his solo project Blue System, which he ended ten years later. C. C. Catch (whom he discovered), Sheree (whom he signed when she was fifteen years old), and Boy band Touché followed him.

Bohlen wrote the title song "Midnight Lady" of Tatort episode Der Tausch, which was performed by former Smokie singer Chris Norman and became a big hit in Central Europe, topping several charts. The song appeared on Norman's second solo album Some Hearts Are Diamonds, which was produced by Bohlen. He composed the title song of Tatort episode "Silent Water" (1988), which he performed himself as the Blue System. Two songs written and produced by him were sent to the Eurovision Song Contest in 1989: Nino de Angelo performed Germany with the song "Flieger" and reached number 14; Thomas Forstner represented Austria with the song "Nur ein Lied" and landed 5th place, while Thomas Forstner represented Austria with the song "Nur ein Lied" and came first place. Bohlen wrote the soundtrack to the ZDF series Rivalen der Rennbahn, which was also rated platinum in Germany and ranked top ten in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in 1989.

Bohlen's last album, Rosenzeit, was released in 1991. He worked with Bonnie Tyler on the albums Bitterblue, Angel Heart, and Silhouette in Red from 1991 to 1993. A number of hits singles, including "Bitterblue," "Against the Wind" (which was used as the title song of Tatort episode Der Fall Schimanski's episode), and "Fools Lullaby," were among the collaboration's produced. Another Bohlen composition appeared in 1992 and Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was titled "Zusammen geh" in English and took the top spot on Tony Wegas' performance and gained tenth on the podium. Modern Talking made a '98', "You Are My Heart," "You Are Not Alone," or Formula One's "Win the Race" and "Ready for the Victory" were among the hits back in 1998.

Bohlen, the German version of Pop Idol and American Idol, was launched in 2002 by a German sucht den Superstar (oftenshortened to DSDS), the German version of Pop Idol and American Idol, was introduced as one of the judges. Although the other judges are rotated regularly, he has served as a judge each season. He has a majority of the winners, as well as several hits such as "We Have a Dream." In the same year, he released his first book, an autobiography entitled Nichts als die Truth, which was published in Germany and received a Goldene Federation award. Hinter den Kulissen, Kessler's second autobiography, will be published next year. Thomas Anders, his ex bandmate, had the institution criticized for its unfairness, and allegations were filed against him. As a retort, Frank Farian wrote Stupid Dieser Bohlen: Die Wahrheit undid den Pop-Hochstapler apprehension, he denounced Bohlen as a ruse. Both Nichts als die truth and Hinter den Kulissen were also released as audiobooks were read by Bohlen. In 2004, he received the ECHO for Producer of the Year, while "We Have a Dream" received the ECHO for Rock/Pop Single of the Year (National).

He wrote and produced the entirety of the film's soundtrack, which includes the recently unveiled Modern Talking song "Shooting Star." He released the album "Be My Boyfriend" for the Duo Indiggo, which took home the seventh place in the Romanian pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. He also published Meine Hammer-Sprüche, his third book, in 2006.

Bohlen was one of the judges in 2007, and the German version of the Got Talent franchise, Das Supertalent, was launched. The fellow judges are rotated on a regular basis, but he has been a judge every season, as opposed to Germany's sucht den Superstar. Nur die Harten kommen in den Garten, his first book, was published in 2008. Planieren statt Sanieren. Der Weg zum Superstar und undernendered, undidden.

Bohlen began collaborating with Schlager singer Andrea Berg in 2010.
