Dick Johnson Life

Richard Johnson (born 26 April 1945) is a former racing driver and part-owner of the V8 Supercar team DJR Team Penske.

He was a five-time Australian Touring Car Champion and a three-time winner of the Bathurst 1000 as a pilot.

Johnson has received more than twenty awards and trophies, including the V8 Supercars Hall of Fame, in which he was inducted in 2001. Dick Johnson was recognised as one of Queensland's most popular sports icons in 2009 as part of the Q150 Icons of Fame.

Early life

As a youth, Johnson attended Cavendish Road State High School in Brisbane, Australia, and it was in this area of Coorparoo that he first started driving with his dad as a young boy. In honor, Cavendish Road State High School has named one of their school houses Johnson. The house's color is blue.

Johnson was drafted into the Australian Army at the age of 20 and began his two-year National Service in 1965 after leaving school. Despite the fact that they didn't know each other at the time, both Johnson and future touring car competitor Peter Brock were stationed together at the Blamey Barracks in Wagga, New South Wales, from 1965 to 1967.

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 8, 2023
Shane van Gisbergen has won his third Bathurst victory in his last year as a full-time Supercars racer. With the victory, he joins Dick Johnson and the ranks of Bathurst greats. On Lap 113, the Red Bull took the lead by 10-seconds but the victory fell from his grasp just moments later when he complained about brake issues. However, the Kiwi managed to maintain his form and became the 60th champion of the Mount Panorama track for his last Bathurst run as a full-time racer.

Today: Karl Stefanovic loses his temper with Sarah Abo over 'dick' joke

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 6, 2023
After making a wry joke about his fondness for 'Dick,' today anchor Karl Stefanovic shuts down his new co-host Sarah Abo on Monday. When sports reporter Alex Cullen asked him if he was a motorsports fan, the 48-year-old had just finished an interview with V8 Supercars owner Dick Johnson. This prompted Sarah, 36, to suggestively ask: 'How much do you like Mr Johnson?'
