Dick Fosbury, who pioneered the high jump with his innovative backward style that became known as the 'Fosbury Flop,' died at the age of 76. Fosbury's agent Ray Schulte posted on his social media page: "I have to announce the news that longtime colleague and client Dick Fosbury died peacefully in his sleep early Sunday morning after a brief bout with a recurrence of lymphoma.' Fosbury won the gold medal at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, a new Games record of 2.24 meters in the process, and paving the way for the event's style to be universally adopted by future generations.
