Derek Taylor Life

Derek Taylor (born May 1932 – September 1997) was an English journalist, writer, publicist, and record producer.

He is best known for his work as the Beatles' press officer, and he was one of many associates to obtain the moniker "the Fifth Beatle."

Taylor was known for his forward-thinking and lucrative media campaigns, as shown by taglines such as "The Beatles Are Coming" and "Brian Wilson Is a Genius."

Before returning to London in 1968 to lead the Apple Corps group of the Beatles, he served as the publicist for California-based bands, including the Byrds, the Beach Boys, and the Mamas and Papas.

He was also dedicated to the 1967 Summer of Love and helped stage the Montey Pop Festival that year.

He then became a North England-based writer for national British newspapers, including the News Chronicle, the Sunday Dispatch, and the Sunday Express.

From 1952, he served as a regular columnist and theatre critic for the Daily Express.

Taylor appeared for Warner Bros in the 1970s.

HandMade Films was released on Records and later in HandMade Films.

Taylor is generally credited with his description of the Beach Boys' 1966 album "Good Vibrations." Taylor stayed close to George Harrison long after the band's breakup, and forged a friendship with John Lennon until his death in 1980.

Taylor, I, Me, Mine, As Time Goes By, The Making of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Fifty Years Ago (In An Open Necked Shirt) and It Was Twenty Years Ago Today, In addition to writing as editor on Harrison's 1980 autobiography, I, Me, Mine, Taylor wrote As Time Goes By, A The Making of Raiders of The Lost Ark.

Taylor died of cancer in September 1997 while working on the Beatles Anthology book, having returned to Apple in the early 1990s.

Personal life

Taylor was married to Joan Taylor (née Doughty) from 1958 to his death. Timothy, Dominic, Gerard, Abigail, Vanessa, and Annabel were among the six children. Joan Taylor appeared in his role in George Harrison's 2011 film Living in the Material World.

Stevie Nicks, an American singer and Fleetwood Mac vocalist, admitted that she had a brief association with Taylor in the late 1970s and that she wrote the song "Beautiful Child" about him on the album Tusk.
