A recent research has published internal memos and papers from Big Oil companies and plastic manufacturers, revealing that these groups knew that recycling is not a permanent solution. Companies such as Exxon Chemical, the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI), and the Vinyl Institute misled the public about recycling in order to avoid regulatory intervention and revenue losses. Recycling cannot be considered a permanent solid waste solution,' according to a 1986 study, but doing so prolongs it until it is discarded into a landfill.
