Da'Vine Joy Randolph (born May 21, 1986) is an American actress and singer best known for her role as Oda Mae Brown in the original Broadway revival of Ghost the Musical, for which she was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical.

Early life

Randolph grew up in Philadelphia and Hershey, Pennsylvania. She went to Temple University to concentrate on vocal development, but she switched to musical theatre in her junior year. After graduating from Temple, she went to Yale School of Drama. She earned her master's degree from Yale in 2011. She attended Interlochen Arts Camp, learning theatre as a child.

Career

Randolph applied for an understudy role in the Broadway revival of Ghost the Musical (which was also playing in London's West End), but the producers decided to cast her in the principal role of Oda Mae Brown. Sharon D. Clarke, who appeared in the London cast of Ghost the Musical, sustained a minor knee injury before the show. Randolph was rushed to London to cover the role in Clarke's absence. Clarke's debut occurred on Friday, December 16, 2011, and she continued to perform with understudy Lisa Davina Phillip until early January 2012.

Randolph and Caissie Levy played opposite Richard Fleeman and Caissie Levy in the leading roles during a preview period that began in March 2012. She was nominated for the Best Featured Actress in a Musical by the Tony Award.

Randolph appeared in ABC's situation comedy series Selfie, which premiered on September 30, 2014.

Randolph performed Christine in the Netflix original series The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Exhibition.
