As Just Stop Oil campaigners pledge to increase demonstrations, art galleries are on alert for new threats

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 21, 2022
Galleries and museums have been warned to be on alert for 'copycat' attacks on artworks, as environmental campaigners have secretly promised to 'escalate' their behavior. Two Just Stop Oil activists hurled Heinz tomato soup at Van Gogh's masterpiece, Sunflowers (main photo; inset is protesters gluing themselves to Da Vinci's Last Supper on July 5th). Tourist attractions are thought to have stepped up their security after two tourists hurled Heinz tomato soup (main photograph). When a Daily Mail reporter visited this week, there was no evidence that the National Gallery had beefed up its checks. When a reporter first stepped into the building with a bag containing a metal flask of water, an airport-style metal detector did not cause an alert.
