Dave King Career

King's professional career began in the early 1980s when he was hired as the vocalist for Fastway, an English hard rock band formed by ex-Motörhead guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke and ex-UFO bassist Pete Way in 1983. They recorded their first four records with King on vocals, as well as a live record.

When Fastway was ostensibly disbanded (Eddie carried on the name with all new members), King formed Katmandu with Mandy Meyer (former member of the band Krokus) and Mike Alonso, (former member of the Detroit-based band Speedball), who released one self-titled album. The band had a couple of minor hits but later disbanded.

King retained a record deal with Epic records, who wanted him to sing for Jeff Beck, but he declined. He started working with forming the band Flogging Molly, with new material that had a distinct Irish sound, but still retaining the hard driving, loud and fast musical style. He asked to be let out of his Epic contract because "they wouldn't know what to do with the new music anyways..." Since then, Flogging Molly has reached position No. 4 on the Billboard charts top 200 and a No. 1 on the Billboard Indie Chart.

Rangers interim chairman Gilligan urges King to stop sniping from sidelines

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 23, 2024
RANGERS interim chairman John Gilligan has urged Dave King to stop criticising the way the club is run, telling him to behave 'like a proper shareholder'. Based in South Africa, King claims the club are in crisis, launching a number of broadsides against the board of directors and offering to return as chairman after claiming the club required a cash injection of £50million to compete with Celtic.

GARY KEOWN: Celtic saw the future in Engels this week... while Rangers are stuck in the past with the same old tired faces

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 21, 2024
IN the quiet confidence and composure of fresh-faced Arne Engels, Celtic supporters can see real glimmers of a future worth believing in. For those across the city of Glasgow, the same old names having the same old arguments over the same old issues just makes Rangers feel like a club stuck firmly in the past.

STEPHEN McGOWAN: Celtic must buy more stars like Engels if they are to keep Rangers on outside looking in

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 20, 2024
In 2018, the chairman of Rangers was Dave King. A man who could bandy words with the Dalai Lama, King was adept at lobbing verbal grenades towards the east end of Glasgow . These days he prefers to throw them at the people running his old club. Six years have passed since King predicted that Celtic would fold like a pack of cards if Rangers won a league title. When they finally did it in 2021, those words blew up in his face like a stick of dynamite in a Looney Tunes cartoon. While King spent this week firing out media barbs at the Ibrox investors he once led - challenging the lot of them to a square go - Celtic put the finishing touches to a set of financial figures showing a profit of £13.4million, an annual revenue of £124.6m and cash reserves of £77.2m. If that's the cards tumbling down, you'd hate to see them with a winning hand.
