Dave Dunn Career

Career

Dunn played college hockey at the University of Saskatchewan and was signed as a free agent by the Vancouver Canucks at the conclusion of his athletic career in 1970. He would spend three seasons in the Canucks' system, culminating in a tumultuous 1972–73 season with the Seattle Totems of the WHL, in which he scored 19 goals and 75 points in 63 games and was voted the league's best defender.

Dunn made his NHL debut in 1973-74, establishing himself as a regular on the Canuck blueline as a rookie. In 68 games, he scored 11 goals and 22 assists, 33 points, good for seventh on the team in scoring. Dunn was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Garry Monahan and John Grisdale after a single game for Vancouver at the start of the 1974–75 season. He had a good season for Toronto in 73 games, scoring 3 goals and 14 points, as well as 153 penalty minutes. He lost his regular spot on the Leaf blueline in 1975-76, but he was sent briefly back to the minors for a brief period of time, with only 8 assists in 43 games.

Dunn jumped to the World Hockey Association in 1976–77, signing with the Winnipeg Jets, despite his NHL career being stalemate. Dunn will compete for the Jets' most team success in back-to-back seasons, winning the title in 1978.

Dunn retired following the Jets' championship win in 1978 and returned to the Vancouver Canucks as assistant coach Harry Neale, a position he held until 1981.
