In Australia, the world Cup debutants Haiti will be England's first opponents. Only Zambia, Morocco, and South Africa have been ranked lower than the Carribean side, who are 49 places lower than the Lionesses in the FIFA rankings (53). Haiti, a young yet hopeful team, secured their spot in the tournament with a dramatic play-off victory over an established Chile team in February. Kerly Theus, Haiti's goalkeeper, is only 5ft 4in tall, and will have to scale almost a meter high to reach the crossbar. When she was growing up, theus did not want to be a goalkeeper, but now she is hoping to inspire young girls in Haiti to play both football and goalkeeping.
