BRIAN VINER: The Netflix film All Quiet On The Western Front premiered in October on the Netflix website in October and has since been one of the most watched foreign-language films on the internet, grossing over 100 million hours. So there's every likelihood you've already seen it, and if not, you might well have a nudge on Sunday evening. It is, unsurprisingly for a German picture, the most-nominated film at Baftas this year. But is it as brilliant as so many people say, or is its success partly due to the novelty of it telling the harrowing but oft-told story of World War I from the German point of view? And, it's certainly a change to see hemmy moustachioed German rather than British generals, who are unable to condemn once-idealistic young men to their near-determined deaths.
