Daniel Boys (born 26 March 1979) is an English musical theatre actor who appeared on BBC talent show Any Dream Will Do in 2007 before becoming well-known as a stage actor in numerous musicals including Avenue Q, Peter Pan, and Spamalot.

Early life and education

Boys were born in Yateley, Hampshire, the son of a chartered surveyor and a phlebotomist. He was awarded a Cameron Mackintosh Scholarship to attend the Guildford School of Acting, where he graduated with a Bachelor degree in 2001 (Honours).

Career

Boys were chosen to participate in Jonathan Larson's Rent's first UK tour, which meant leaving college early. He understudied Mark (played by Adam Rickitt) and Angel, before taking over Mark's role as an actor on alternate nights at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London's West End. He appeared in Morino's UK tour of Sunset Boulevard in 2002, which starred Faith Brown. In Grease at the Victoria Palace, the boys also appeared as Roger, one of the T-birds. He also appeared in Doody in Scandinavia and Cyprus and went on the tour to Japan. Daniel was also a soloist in Disney's Enchanted Evening (a series of UK concerts in 2004), of which the last concert was broadcast on BBC1 as the BBC Family Prom in the Park.

Boys appeared in BBC London's Children in Need: The Musical in 2005. He appeared at a Party in the Park with Grease's company. Blue Peter and The Graham Norton Show were among Grease's guest television appearances. He also appeared in I Love You Because (Landor in 2007), Anthony in In I Love You Because (Royal Festival Hall in 2006), and Parson Nathaniel (u/s) in Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds (National Tour in 2007). All male roles were also understudied. He will be seen on the live tour DVD special features of Russell Watson in the dress rehearsal.

He appeared on BBC reality show Any Dream Will Do in 2007. He was the 7th contestant to be disqualified from the series on May 19th. During the course, the judges tested his vocal abilities on a variety of music genres, including rock, swing, ballads, and pop. During a sing-off in which he performed "Bring Him Home" from Les Misérables against Lewis Bradley, his only chance to perform a musical theatre number was on stage. Daniel received the fewest votes, and Andrew Lloyd Webber was chosen to leave the show.

In July 2007, Boys then appeared in Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, one of the first shows to open at the newly restored Royal Festival Hall.

Boys performed in two concerts in Manchester and Birmingham titled "Valentines at the Musicals," which included songs from West Side Story and My Fair Lady. He appeared in Painted Lady: The Princess Caraboo Scandal (Bristol Old Vic/Finborough), then as Eddie in the London premiere of Wolfboy at Trafalgar Studios.
