Courtney McCool Career

Elite gymnastics career

McCool was the runner-up in the 2003 National Championships' junior division and earned a silver medal on vault at the 2003 Pan American Games. She appeared in the Olympic Test Event in Athens the following year, her first as a senior international elite. She was the only gymnast at the Test Event to qualify for all four event finals, winning a silver medal on vault and bronze on the uneven bars. She then finished fourth in the all-around at the National Championships and second at the Olympic Trials, earning a spot on the Olympic team.

McCool participated in all four events in the qualifying round but was disqualified on beam and floor, leaving him out of the team finals lineup. The United States team took the silver medal after Romania.

McCool appeared on the T.J. Maxx Tour of Olympic Champions, a national gymnastics exhibition tour, after the Olympics. However, after finding out that the tour would not be stopping in Kansas City, she took the Rock 'N Roll Gymnastics Challenge, a sister tour, for its Kansas City show, she joined the Rock 'N Roll Gymnastics Challenge. T.J. Maxx officials said they had not offered McCool permission to do so and that she had been barred from the tour's remainder.

McCool had been suffering from Kienbock's disease, a wrist injury that required surgery and barred her from participating in further post-Olympic exhibitions late in 2004.

NCAA career

In the 2006-07 school year, McCool received a full scholarship to the University of Georgia. She helped the team win their third straight national championship, winning a record-tying feat on beam at the 2007 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships in Salt Lake City. McCool won the floor exercise and contributed to Georgia's fourth straight title at the 2008 Championships in Athens, Georgia. Georgia captured its fifth straight title in 2009, and McCool was named an All-American on balance beam, where she scored her first 10.0.
