Cortez Kennedy (August 23, 1968 – May 23, 2017) was an American football defensive tackle who spent his entire 11-season with the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL).
In 2012, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He reimagined and extended the possibilities of how a large-bodied interior lineman could be used.

High school and college career
Kennedy was born in Osceola, Arkansas, but he grew up in Wilson, Arkansas' neighbor. He graduated from Rivercrest High School in Wilson and attended Northwest Mississippi Community College before being named an All-American in 1989.
In 2004, Kennedy was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame.
Professional career
He was the third overall pick in the 1990 draft by the Seahawks and was unsigned until two days before the season's launch. In 1991, Kennedy was invited to the Pro Bowl. Despite the Seahawks' 2–14 record, he was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press in 1992, having fired 14 quarterbacks. He changed his jersey number 99 in honor of close friend Jerome Brown and was named First or Second-team All-Pro five times.
After the 2000 season, Kennedy resigned. He played 668 tackles, 58 sacks, and three interceptions in 167 games with Seattle. After missing out the 2001 season, he announced his resignation in August 2002. He had been offered multiple positions by other organizations, but he wanted to continue his career in Seattle. He is widely regarded as one of the best defensive tackles to ever play in the NFL. In 2008, he was a semi-finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as well as a finalist in 2009 and 2011, before being elected to the Hall as a member of the 2012 induct class. He was the second member of the Seahawks to earn his fame as a Seahawk.
Kennedy, who resigned as an advisor for the New Orleans Saints, whose general manager, Mickey Loomis, had previously worked with the Seahawks. Kennedy later moved to Arkansas and Orlando, Florida, where he raised his daughter Courtney and concentrated on her education.
In 2006, Kennedy was inducted into the Seahawks' Ring of Honor. 96, he was suspended by the Seahawks after a game against the New England Patriots on October 14, 2012.
