After suffering ankle surgery against the New Jersey Devils last Friday, Chicago Blackhawks rookie sensation Connor Bedard will be out of action for up to eight weeks. Bedard was skating up the ice with the puck and attempting to dump it behind the New Jersey net on a power play midway through the first period against the Devils, before running into Brendan Smith's check. In what was deemed a criminal attack, Smith's shoulder collided with Bedard's upper chest and jaw. The bedard staggered to the ground, leaping out clutching his jaw and headed to the bench. The 18-year-old hasn't played since.

Bedard had to leave New Jersey's game against New Jersey on Friday night after being leveled by Devils defenseman Brendan Smith in the first period of the 4-2 loss. As he skated to the bench, the top pick of the 2023 NHL Draft was seen smiling at his face, while teammates Nick Foligno and Brett Seney sparked a contest behind the Devils' net.
