Early life
Egglesfield was born in Farmington Hills, Michigan, as the second child of Kathleen (née Dineen) and William Egglesfield, a surgeon. His mother is an Irish immigrant. Kerry, his older sister, and Sean, his younger brother. He was born in a Catholic household.
In his adolescent years, Shy cites his prep football coach Dave Mattio for helping him to have a positive self-confidence. Egglesfield graduated from Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois, where he played for the football team. He then attended the University of Iowa, where he was enrolled in the pre-med program. Since getting his BS from Iowa, he blasted around Europe.
Egglesfield converted to modeling in order to raise funds for medical school. He won a competition after being encouraged by a friend and left medicine behind for a modeling career. He is a student at the University of Milan, Italy, and DNA Model Management in New York City. Among other things, he modeled for Versace, Calvin Klein, and Armani before starting to perform. He appeared on the front pages of Vogue Italia (shot by Steven Meisel) and L'Uomo Vogue (twice and Ellen Von Unwerth respectively), in the 1990s.
Career
After taking drama lessons, Egglesfield discovered himself guest star on television shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Gilmore Girls, Charmed, and Nip/Tuck. In addition to numerous other minor film productions, he played a small part in the 2005 film Must Love Dogs. Josh Madden took over the role of Josh Madden from his short-lived predecessor Scott Kinworthy on September 26, 2005. Egglesfield was named one of People magazine's "Sexiest Men Alive" in 2005. He attended the Cackalacky Film Festival in Charlotte, N.C., where his film Beautiful Dreamer was named Best American Full Feature Film.
In The CW's 2009 series Melrose Place, Egglesfield portrayed chef/surfer guy Auggie Kirkpatrick beginning in the fall of 2009. Egglesfield and his co-star Ashlee Simpson-Wentz were fired, but his character was written out of the show during the thirteenth episode due to a change in the show's course. He appeared in Something Borrowed's film version in 2011, opposite Kate Hudson. On TNT's Rizzoli & Isles, Egglesfield plays Tommy Rizzoli in the recurring role as of August 2011. Evan Parks appeared on Lifetime's The Client List from 2012 to 2013.
