As she was on vacation in Nassau, writer-producer Kevin McClory noticed her and suggested that she audition for his film Thunderball (1965). Dominetta Petacchi, an Italian woman, was supposed to play the role of Domino. Auger was so impressed by the actors that they rewrote the role to that of a French woman to better suit Auger. Although she took lessons to improve her English, Nikki van der Zyl's voice was eventually dubbed. If Auger and Domino were both concerned with older men, she would say she related to her character Domino. A semi-nude Playboy spread was the most immediate byproduct of Claudine's fame.
Thunderball launched Auger into a lucrative European film career, but she did not do well for her elsewhere in the United States. She did, however, appear in The Road to Lebanon, a Danny Thomas special starring Bing Crosby, which was on NBC on April 20, 1966.
In the Italian film Anyone Can Play (1968), Auger co-starred with Ursula Andress, another Bond girl. Barbara Bouchet and Barbara Bach performed in Black Belly of the Tarantula (1971), a giallo mystery. She appeared in European films such as Triple Cross (1966, reunites her with James Bond producer Terence Young), and The Killing Game (1967).
In one of the last episodes of the series, Auger appeared in the British television series "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes" (1994).
