Claude Akins Life

Claude Aubrey Akins (May 25, 1926 – January 27, 1994) was an American character actor with a long career in stage, film, and television.

On the 1979-1981 television show B. J., he was best known as Sheriff Lobo.

The Bear and The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo, a spin-off film, later became The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo.

Early years

Akins was born in Nelson, Georgia, and he grew up in Bedford, Indiana, the son of Maude and Ernest Akins. He was born in 1918, making his age at death 75, but Akins' father claims he died at the age of 67, and he is listed as Aubrey Akins in the 1940 Census, age 13. In World War II in Burma and the Philippines, he served with the US Army Signal Corps.

He graduated from Northwestern University, where he had majored in theatre arts and became a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Film career

Akins first appeared in From Here to Eternity (1953), as a film actor. In In The Caine Mutiny (1954), he appeared as a seaman and shipmate of Lee Marvin's in The Caine Mutiny (1954). In Rio Bravo (starring John Wayne, Ricky Nelson, Dean Martin, and Angie Dickinson), Naval Lt. In Don't Give Up the Ship (starring Jerry Lewis), Sgt. "Rocky" Rockman in Merrill's Marauders (1960), outlaw Ben Lane in Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1974), the last original Apes film, and explorer Aldo in Don't Give Up the Ship (1976).

He was only in a small role in The Sea Chase with John Wayne. In the film Return of the Seven (1966) (also known as Return of the Magnificent Seven and The Magnificent Seven 2), he appeared with Yul Brynner and Robert Fuller, and in the film Seasons of the Heart (1993).
