Despite being taken into North Korean detention after he crossed into the country last month, the US has declined so far to characterize Army Private Travis King as a prisoner of war. According to four US officials, the decision, which may mean that King is not covered by the guarantees entitled to prisoners of war under the Geneva Convention, is particularly worrying for the US military because it leaves no soldier behind enemy lines.
